In a weekend full of dramatic finishes perhaps the greatest of all came in a snowy Lambeau Field where Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers upset the No. 1 seed Green Bay Packers 13-10 thanks to a game-ending field goal by Robbie Gould. The 49ers defense managed to hold one of the best offenses in the NFL to just 10 points while some late game heroics by Jimmy Garopollo, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Elijah Mitchell gave the 49ers a chance to end the game in the final seconds.
Entering the game Green Bay was a heavy favorite; playing in their home stadium fresh off of a week of rest was seen as an obvious advantage heading into this matchup. What wasn't taken into account, however, was how hungry the 49ers were for a victory and how impressive they would be on both sides of the ball.
Though the game was low scoring, both offenses had moments of mastery. Running back Elijah Mitchell picked up 53 rushing yards on the day as well as 18 yards on receptions. Mitchell once again proved to be a reliable weapon for Garopollo as the 49ers move deeper into the playoffs. Mitchell's rushing ability coupled with the versatility of wide receiver Deebo Samuel will present a difficult puzzle for the Los Angeles Rams to piece together this coming Sunday.
After their win, head coach Kyle Shanahan has some words for his players in the locker room. One thing is for sure; the San Francisco 49ers are not done yet.
Earned another opportunity.
